About us

Please read the following little story of those of us lucky enough to have grown up in the islands of the Venetian Lagoon.

We remember how the small Venetian boats navigated lightly through the canals and shallow water without having to pay attention to the wooden pillars ("bricole") than now line the canals.

We remember the sensation of the smell of the salty lagoon water that still surrounds us each time the front part (pruna) of the sanpierota (typical boat that you can see in the picture) calmly cuts the golden water at sunset.

So many things remind us of those days when our elders were passing down all of their knowledge to us about the winds, the tides, and the Venetian rowing style of navigating the sea.

This art, together with Venetian sailing, made the fortune of the famous Serenissima Republic of Venice (697 - 1797). Generations and generations of children began at a very young age to learn these antique techniques. As soon as they learned, they could help their families.

Luckly, we share the same destiny! We got to start Venetian rowing at an early age. As young Venetian boys, we were interested in the rowing competitions here called the "regata". We were partecipating in the regattas organized for teenagers. We were waiting hours to be able to see the champions passing through the grand canal during the ramous Regatta Storica (the first Sundau of every September). Our dream was to race in the grand canal like our rowing idols, just like today's children dream about being soccer champions.

As adults we returned to rowing and joined the Murano Rowing Club (Gruppo Remiero Murano). After a few years, with experience and enthusiasm we became the group's leaders in the club. We started it with 30 rowing members and now we are 100. In addition, we have school students that attend our summer rowing classes. Everyone on the island is now very proud of our rowing club, open to all: men, boys, girls and women. Our oldest member is almost 80 years old.

Now we are ready for new adventure. In 2009 we had a strong desire to take advantage of our 40 years of know-how and connection to our beautiful Venetian lagoon and share it with others visiting Venice.
