The sanpierota is a boat that takes its name from the island of San Pietro in Volta, one antique part of the island of Pellestrina, along the coast, very close to the Adriatic sea. It was a fishing boat inside the lagoon.
It can be rowed by two rowers: one in the front (prora) and one behind (poppa). Or by one rower with one oar or two oars if you follow the "valesana" style: with this style you have the impresion that the oars touch each other, bu they do not.
You can also use this boat with a small motor or even as a Venetian sailing boat (vela al terzo). The design and the line of sanpierota boat evolved from other Venetian boats that you will be able to see at our rowing club.
This boat is constructed similat to the "topo" (another Venetian boat) as the skeleton is shaped following the natural elasticity of the wooden pieces, withou reshaping the wood with heat.
